Remember when I started posting more and more pics? They were usually of a giant muffin top and jeans I didn't fit into...... Some were just random every day pics of me, some were of my 'no ass'. Then of course there was my total awesomeness in Vegas with margaritas the size of my head. Whatever. Well, anyhow I haven't done that in a while. I got a comment yesterday asking for a progress pic. I'm hesitant about posting one and I will tell you why:
People are Assholes.
Each time I would post progress pics, I would get hate mail. Every single time. Without fail. 'April, you're disgusting.'. 'April, those jeans are still too big to be called 'goal jeans'. 'April, you should be ashamed'. 'April, that isn't a muffin top it's a whole pan of muffins'. 'April, consider slitting your wrists'.
So, lately when I have posted pics.... I leave the post up for a day and then 'draft it'. I save it for me to see and whatever comments may have come in and that's about it. Sick of the crap. I have been taking progress pics, I have lots of pics of James and I (I know I haven't even shared his gorgeousness with you yet), I have pics of a happier, healthier, smaller me........... I will decide if/when I can share them. I like posting pics, I feel more connected and have more to look back on when I go read old posts to re-light the fire under my ass (or no-ass as it were). But, that's why I've been avoiding pics.
Some of the emails are from the same person using different addresses, because the childish writing style is the same. There were others though that were well written. So more than one person hates looking at my fat roll? Stop reading my blog then, douchebags!
Ok, I'm off to interview people all day. We need a new janitor, a new court Prosecutor and a new Clerk of Courts. I'll be stuck in questioning hell all day. The Prosecutor should be fun though!

ReplyDeleteThat is so weird. I've never gotten an email about anything really. So I find it aggressive and mean-spirited. Your progress has been amazing! I hope that someday in the near future, it won't matter what the "haters" are going to say. I would love to see some photos of your fat roll! ;)

What is the point of that...I mean, when obviously, it's all about a person trying to change and make progress and sharing their dream? The only reason folks make fun of pictures...is to show their souls are dark as a rotted mushroom, I guess. Can be no other reason....

I have to be honest and say that the people who are doing this crap are really getting me mad. In fact I`m taking a couple of days off of blogging to figure out whether I still want to be blogging. Most of blogging and bloggers I love then there`s the others.

ReplyDeleteThat's just wrong...people are sad...sometimes it is embarrassing to be human. Really, nothing better to do with their time? Sad sad people that do that. Sorry you have had to experience that. They have no idea how much we beat up ourselves let alone get additional help.

Your are beautiful I say post and say F**k them. i have pictures posted of my fat rolls hanging all out and had people say some pretty rude stuff to me but o well either they are haters dont understand or want you to fail. I would love to see your pictures because i know you are doing wonderful and i know we could see just how proud you are of how far you have come by your expressions in each picture. Dont let a**holes stand in your way.
ReplyDeleteI can't even believe that! How horrible! I've never had such a thing happen, but that's unfortunately probably what happens to people who are awesome bloggers who get a bunch of followers. Amongst the mostly sane, supportive, constructive people will be a few asshats.
ReplyDeleteI am sad that this keeps you from posting pictures. I LOVE blogger's pictures, especially progress pictures. Most of us are far from perfect, all struggling along the same road, and we need to glean inspiration from one another. You are making me want to get braver about posting my own. But I totally understand how vulnerable we are, how painful and hurtful that shit can be. You deserve better than that!
Good time to practice self-love, though. Know that they are wrong. Know that you are beautiful, your goals are worthy, and your progress counts. Delete those comments, or leave them and let other people see the ugliness in their souls and rise above!
It is 100% up to you whether you post progress pics or not but don't let those terrible comments sway you. You lost 70 pounds and are working toward more, you should be proud! At the very least I hope you are privately looking at "before" and "after" photos - it's so motivating!

ReplyDeleteI'm not going to tell you to ignore them. How could you? I try to tell myself that everyone else's opinion of me is none of my business, but somehow their thought creep in and for some UNKNOWN reason their opinion counts - what - maybe 20 times more than a normal person's!

ReplyDeleteSorry you have to go something like this. Don't let them ruin your day. I only got hatemail once (from a Christian, for something posted at a Pagan blog), and it was really weird. If you do not feel like sharing pictures, don't do it. All your readers know yo uare awesome anyway.
